Shark bite on swimmer is latest in series of such attacks along Carolinas coast

(CNN)At least five reported shark attacks this month have swimmers proceeding with caution as they head to coastal beaches in North and South Carolina.

In the latest incident, a beach outing in North Carolina took a harrowing turn Saturday afternoon when a 17-year-old boy was attacked by a shark.

10-Year-Old Boy Bitten by Shark in Florida

Just days after two teenagers suffered vicious shark bites at North Carolina beaches, yet another shark attack was reported today -- this time in central Florida.

Around 1 p.m. today, a 10-year-old boy was swimming in shallow water in Daytona Beach Shores when he was bitten by what appeared to be a small shark, according to Capt. Tamra Marris of Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue.

The boy suffered minor lacerations to his calf. He was treated and released at the scene, Marris said.

One attack happened to a 19-year-old woman in waist-deep water in New Smyrna when a shark bit her foot, according to Volusia County Beach Safety Ocean Rescue. ABC affiliate WFTV reported that the injury was minor and that the woman was treated on site.

Two teenagers were mauled in separate shark attacks on the same stretch of North Carolina beach Sunday, both suffering life-threatening injuries, local officials said.

A 13-year-old girl lost a part of her arm when she was bitten by a shark in an attack that occurred around 4:40 p.m. in Oak Island, a town about 30 miles south of Wilmington, according to Brunswick County officials.

Man Surives Near Deadly Shark Attack Off California

(CNN) -- Soon after the great white shark chomped into his torso, Steven Robles thought everything was over.

"I really thought that that might be it. I thought I might be dying," he said.

Instead, the long-distance swimmer is recovering from the wounds -- but might never return to the water. The trauma of the attack is still too vivid.

On Saturday, a 7-foot-long shark near Manhattan Beach, California, became agitated by a fisherman's hook. It apparently took out its frustration on Robles, who was swimming nearby.

March 2013: Man and Woman In Zimbabwe Have Sex in Jungle, Lion Mauls Woman to Death

A romantic encounter in the Zimbabwean bush turned deadly this week when a lion attacked and killed a Kariba woman during a couple’s sex romp. The vicious beast pounced and mauled Sharai Mawera to death, My Zimbabwe reported. The unnamed boyfriend fled naked, the news outlet reported. “The lion came from behind and roared,” a source told the news outlet. “The guy managed to escape before stopping at a (distance) where he witnessed his companion being attacked. He later rushed to the road seeking help.”
Passersby in the lakeshore town near the border with Zambia ignored the naked man’s pleas for help fearing he was mentally ill. Finally taken seriously, wildlife officials responded and fired a single shot to scare off the beast, but the woman was already dead.
“Unfortunately the woman, who was also known as Mai Desire, was mauled to death by the lion but her boyfriend managed to escape naked and he was only wearing a condom,” a source told My Zimbabwe. “The two were having their quality time near Mahombekombec Primary School.”
An arm and a few remnants of a second corpse were later found by rangers hunting for the lions.
