Female Exec Atacked by Shark in Hawaii During Morning Swim

For 34-year-old Julie Given-Glance, Nov. 17 started out as just another day in paradise.
The San Diego credit union executive was vacationing with her family on the Hawaiian island of Maui, when she set out that morning for what she thought would be a 20-minute swim. Instead, just 100 yards off the shore of Kaanapali Beach, she swam into the path of a shark.
"I was swimming along when my right shoulder got slammed by something big," Given-Glance told Good Morning America. "I felt the bite, was released almost immediately, and turned to see a six- to eight-foot shark right in front of my eyes."
With the help of a boogie boarder who was about 20 yards away and her own determination, Given-Glance managed to get to shore.
Feeling Like Bait
Right after the bite, the pain wasn't that intense, but Given-Glance was shocked and "scared out of my wits," she said. The shark bit into her right shoulder, chewed her forearm, and nearly severed her wrist, before swimming away.
Given-Glance feared her blood would attract a feeding frenzy of other sharks, and that she had basically become "bait."
But instead of panicking, the amateur triathlete grabbed her injured arm with the other arm, rolled onto her back and began using her legs to swim. As she swam to shore, horrified beachgoers heard her screaming, and one woman dialed 911.
"There's a gal … in front of the Maui Kai and the Embassy Suites, she's bleeding profusely," the woman said. "She's been attacked by a shark or something."

Great White Shark Eats Man Alive In Front of Horrified Witnesses

March 01, 2013 12:54PM
A MAN is dead after a Great White shark attack at Muriwai Beach, north of Auckland.

Emergency services rushed to Muriwai, a popular west coast surf beach just before 11.30am today following reports of a shark attack.
A student said police officers fired 20 shots at the 3.7-4.3 metre long Great White Shark, which has not been retrieved from the sea, Stuff NZ reported.
Newstalk ZB reporter Juliette Sivertsen said the attack was very aggressive, with the shark refusing to let go of the man's body until police shot at it.

"All of a sudden ... we saw the shark fin and next minute, boom, attack him then blood every where on the water," he said.
He called 111 while his mate ran to get help.
"He was still alive, he put his, head up, we called him to swim over the rock to where we were.
"He raised his hand up, and then while he was rising his hand up we saw another attack pull him in the water.
He said as the blood covered the water more sharks started swimming around the area. "It's awful - it's scary like a nightmare to me. I was shaking, scared, panicked," said Mr Mose.

Shark Rips Man Apart as Police Watch Helpless From Helicopters

An award-winning short-film director was killed Wednesday in a bloody shark attack off New Zealand while police in a helicopter watched helplessly from above, local media are reporting.
Police Inspector Shawn Rutene said in a statement that the swimmer, identified by his family as Adam Strange, was about 220 yards offshore when the shark attacked.
A police helicopter flew over the scene as the man battled the shark, The New Zealand Herald reported. But by the time a police officer in a boat drew near, the victim was dead, the Herald said, citing a police source who declined identification while the investigation continued.
The officer fired up to 12 shots before the shark, apparently hit, released the body. "It rolled over and disappeared," Rutene said, estimating the shark was about 14 feet long.
